About the Program

We believe that a creative writing classroom is most dynamic when it consists of as many diverse voices as possible. To that end, The Writing Salon wants anyone over 18 years of age who is curious about writing to have access to our classes. Each season, our Access Program covers up to 50% of the tuition fee for students with both financial need and a desire to improve as writers. If you would like to take a class at The Writing Salon at a reduced rate, please fill out the application form below.

The Writing Salon Access Program made an enormous difference in my growth as a writer. During a year when I was transitioning careers, I was determined to keep my writing practice up, despite fluctuations in my income. The Access Program made this possible. The very existence of the Access Program is a testament to the dedication of the staff at The Writing Salon to helping writers like me. Getting a sizable discount off of the tuition for a class allowed my growth as a writer to continue uninterrupted.

Application Guidelines

To be considered for the program, you must complete your request with the following information:

A brief and informative statement about your current financial situation

A clear description of how a class at The Writing Salon will help you

List of 3 specific classes (titles) you would like to sign up for — view upcoming classes

If you received Access Program funds in the past, you’re eligible to apply again only after one year. Once you fill out and submit the form, you will receive an email confirmation of receipt. Your application will be reviewed based on all the information provided. Please note that all three classes will be considered for funds and you’ll receive an update on the decision within 5 business days.

Program Spots and Funds

Reduced-rate spots are available on a rolling basis, and a limited amount of funds are available each season.

If accepted for a class that costs $360 or less, you’ll receive 50% off

If accepted for a class that costs above $360, you’ll receive $180 off

The funds can be used only for the specific class you’re accepted in

If you qualify for a class that’s full or if funds run out, we’ll do our best to recommend other cost-effective alternatives.

When we evaluate applicants for an Access Program spot, we take all class choices into consideration. Are you interested in registering for all classes you’ve listed AND available to participate in them?

If you have a strong preference for a particular class, please explain. We will do our best to match you with your preferred class. However, you have a much better chance of receiving Access Program placement if you select more than one class.
